When we received an invitation from TAT (Tourism Authority of Thailand) to visit the country in April on a textile expedition, we just couldn't resist! With both having a degree in Fashion and a natural love for craft, textiles and pattern it was an opportunity not to be missed. This year TAT are celebrating 'Discover Thainess' and have invited six designers to travel to Thailand, to discover Thainess through Thai arts, crafts and textiles.
We will travelling to Bangkok and thereafter to the North of Thailand, to the beautiful untouched Nan province. Here we will be visiting local weavers who have traditionally handwoven cotton fabric for generations. It is with this fabric that we will be designing and constructing a garment...we may be a little rusty so a local tailor will be on hand! These garments will then be presented to the Ministry of Tourism & Sport in Bangkok...so no pressure!
We are very excited to be able to explore a new country, to be welcomed by TAT and the Thai people. Throughout our trip we will be sharing our Thai discoveries on our Facebook, Instagram & Twitter pages, so do follow our story as we head further into the hills on this incredible textile adventure.
